Traveling along the stunning west coast, known for its affluent beachfront homes and mansions as well as sparkling waters and white sand beaches, one of the first points of interest is Holetown, site of the landing of the first settlers, in 1627. Further north, Speightstown is the second largest town and a former main port of entry. Turning inland, a stop is made for a photo opportunity at Cherry Tree Hill, arguably the best viewpoint on the island.
The tour continues along the rugged Atlantic coast of the island, along the East Coast Road and through Bathsheba to Andromeda Botanic Gardens, one of the Caribbean's premier displays of flowers and flowering shrubs, interspersed with streams, placid ponds and rocky outcrops. Andromeda represents a major collection of indigenous flora and fauna that will amaze and inspire you.
Next is a brief stop at St. John’s Church with beautiful views of the coastline. In the graveyard, lies Ferdinando Paleologus, one of the last descendants of the Greek Christian Emperors.
After a short drive through the countryside, a lunch stop is made at 300 year old Sunbury Plantation House, with a delicious 'Bajan' buffet in the garden setting of the Courtyard Restaurant, featuring many Barbadian specialties. A welcome drink and a tour of the recently restored house and museum are included. Visitors are permitted to view everything in the house, from the cellars to the bedrooms. The cellars now house the Caribbean’s finest collections of antique carriages.
On the South Coast of the island, the final stop is at Carlisle Bay. This beautiful beach has calm, sparkling waters and sands that stretch for miles. A refreshing drink can be enjoyed at one of the many bars and restaurants located along these sands. Beach chairs and changing facilities are available (please remember to bring swimwear, sunblock a beach towel!).
